Concentration and definition risk

Impact-washing risk

For a company, calculate how much revenue and profit actually come from water-related activities. For a fund, read the index methodology or investment mandate and inspect its largest holdings.

2. Examine financial quality

Review revenue growth, margins, debt, cash generation, capital spending and valuation. For utilities, study the regulatory jurisdictions and rate base. For equipment companies, examine order cycles and customer concentration.

3. Compare costs and liquidity

4. Check portfolio fit
